The harbour is now silted up, and only small boats can make their way out past Blakeney Point to the sea. It seems a fitting natural punishment for a village that refused to supply a ship for England's battle against the Spanish Armada.
Melancholy as I feel about the final passage of the Lisbon Treaty today, I am confident it is not the last word and the future will run toward freedom.
