Brits at their Best

The best historical fiction

Writing in the Wall Street Journal about the best historical fiction, Rebecca Stott names Orlando, my favorite Virginia Woolf novel, and Sir Walter Scott's Waverly. When I was a girl, my favorite Scott was Ivanhoe.

A British historian, Stott is the author of Darwin and the Barnacle, a curious tale of non-fiction, and the The Coral Thief, a novel set in France after Napoleon's fall.
