Gripping stuff - world's first bionic fingers
I noticed this in the Telegraph while flying across the Atlantic.
The world's first bionic fingers which allow users with damaged hands to pick up a glass, hold cutlery and even write have been developed by British scientists.The custom-made motorised digits, which cost between £35,000 and £45,000, are directly controlled by the brain and yet require no surgery.
We hope these ProDigits are as good as they sound. If so, it will increase the well-being of people bereft of their fingers. It will also add another advance to the long list of helpful inventions for which the British are responsible - immunizations, CAT scans, MRIs, antibiotics and sanitation, to name but a few.
