I think I can fairly say I have had too exciting a Christmas. Not surprisingly this leaves me feeling unenthusiastic about celebrating New Year's. The pleasantly cynic tone of The Case Against New Year is washed away on the tide of Tennyson's poem.
Besides, even the auld Scots can't match the universal post-modern panic and guilty excitement caused by the boondoggle of Y2K.
