Meanwhile, back in 1265, the people of England - village constables, university students, farmers, fishermen, blacksmiths, carpenters, Londoners and merchants, the earls of England, bishops, abbots and bachelor knights - were all united in opposing injustice, high taxes and arrogant, self-dealing government.

They fought Henry III, and on January 20th 1265 the first elected Parliament met in Westminster.
