Lovely!
The new garden at Savill Garden, Windsor swirls with 2500 roses -
Walking towards it the other day, in the company of Wilson and Flanagan I was surprised by how much the garden keeps its secrets and surprises until you are almost upon it. And from the nearby gravel and herbaceous gardens, the central structure gives the effect of quietly floating in the view."The idea was that this experience intensifies through stronger colours and richer concentrations of scent as you move in a spiral towards the centre of the garden, until eventually you end up suspended above them, with the scents rising up to you. And as I drew the spiral, the whole design started to resemble an open rose flower - quite unintentionally". . .
The garden designer is Andrew Wilson. The keeper of the gardens is Mark Flanagan.
