For the Virgin Mary, music lovers and car appreciators
Back at last.
On August 15th, 1919, on the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Marcel Dupré was playing improvisations during Vespers in Notre Dame de Paris. Claude Johnson, then Managing Director of Rolls-Royce, was in attendance at that Vespers service, and commissioned Dupré to write down and publish his improvisations. Thus we can enjoy them ninety-one years later.
Claude Johnson, "often described as the hyphen in Rolls-Royce", created the Silver Ghost, which established the Rolls as the ultimate car.
Johnson loved music, and the Virgin Mary has inspired beautiful music. Here is the Choir of Magdalen College, Oxford, singing the Magnificat, the words of Mary, set to music by William Byrd. Worshippers and artists through the centuries have made her words their own - 'My soul doth magnify the Lord'.

Music of this standard is the jewel in the crown of the Anglican Church - and I speak as an outsider.
