Brits at their Best

The King's stammer and selflessness

When Colin Firth received the Desert Palm actor achievement award for his performance as George VI from Helen Mirren, who had received an Academy Award for her performance as The Queen, his daughter, he charmingly bowed.

Today in the Telegraph Charles Moore explains how George VI overcame his stammer.

The British people's love for the King came from his selflessness.

You might say this selflessness was part of the King's character. Or you might say it was part of his Coronation Oath, described in Share the Inheritance (see far column on this page).
