On the subject of free speech
Because Common Law and common sense protected free speech for hundreds of years, Britain became renowned for defending every person's right to speak out. In the 20th century political dissidents around the world clung to BBC World Service reports as to a lifeline. I remember huddling with Czechs in a Prague kitchen, secretly listening to the BBC before the Velvet Revolution.
