Remembering the sacrifice of merchant seamen

Thousands of merchant navy sailors died during World War II. Their sacrifice has often been forgotten.
On the 4th we were unkindly hacked (many thanks to those of you who alerted us), so we were unable to post on the service of remembrance and wreath-laying, which paid tribute to these men.
Out in the Atlantic seventy years ago, they were bringing vital supplies to Britain and were mercilessly targeted by Nazi German U-boats. Despite the overwhelming threat of a watery grave, they continued to serve there and round the world.
Ave atque Vale.
