Shakespeare wrote the plays
The movie Anonymous is a glamorous attempt to change my mind, but I believe Shakespeare is the sublime author.
Stanley Wells makes a good case for Will.
The alternative, the turbulent Earl of Oxford, was a tempestuous spendthrift and dandy, an emotion-blown foreign traveler, a debtor and street fighter, a sometime Catholic who betrayed other Catholics, an unsuccessful entrepreneur, a rather good poet, and a splendid patron of artists. Even a blazing genius has to have a few days to put pen to paper. With his propensity for unlucky litigation, extra-curricular affairs, and court intrigue, I find it doubtful that the Earl of Oxford had the time or wisdom to author the plays. He makes a wonderful character, though. You can check out his Wiki biography.
