Steak at home

I haven't eaten steak for some time, but I'm pretty sure this method from Hawksmoor is the best way to cook it.

The word boeuf came with the Normans, with whom Anglo-Saxons had a beef.

Despite invasion, the Anglo-Saxons preserved common law. William the Conqueror had exploited his connection with the Confessor to claim the English throne. The English cunningly connected common law with the Confessor. Or, to make another culinary metaphor - has anyone noticed how many there are in English? - what's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander.

And while the steak is resting, open up a bottle of French Red.
