Another Place
Another Place, image by Howard Maunders of On this Day, Beautiful Britain.
One hundred cast iron figures, spread over a 2 mile stretch of Crosby beach near Merseyside, face out to sea. They are called Another Place.
The artist is Antony Gormley. Each figure, a cast replica of his body, is nearly 6 feet 2½ inches tall and weighs over 1400 pounds.

As the tides ebb and flow, the figures are revealed and submerged by the sea.
What if they had been not placed but discovered, ancient witnesses of an earlier time?
Cast the mind forward, to AD 3011. What will a man or woman arriving at the beach see? Will the figures have vanished, corroded by sea water, or will a gazing head or arm remain, a silent witness?
A charity raised the money to keep the figures on the beach.
