Brits at their Best

Sir Richard Branson's transatlantic attempt in jeopardy

Today, after "massive seas and very strong gales"swept away a liferaft and ripped the main sail of Sir Richard Branson's yacht", his transatlantic record attempt was in jeopardy. He is sailing toward Britain with his two children, Ben Ainslie and a strong crew.

Meanwhile, back in 1620 during this same month the small Mayflower, packed with men, women and children determined to reach America, headed east through similar transatlantic storms.
