Comments to The Queen's Reply have ranged from rage to outrage. In Canada, MAD was concerned enough to link. One correspondent demanded,
Why are we being passed from pillar to post? Why cannot the Queen answer these questions? Is she sovereign or is she not sovereign? Does she not know? If she is not sovereign, then all the oaths, taken up and down the country, by the police, armed forces, civil servants, MPs and others are null and void. She cannot just abdicate her responsibility without, simultaneously, abdicating the throne. Why does she fob off the responsibility that is hers on to her subordinates, such as Jack Straw?
