Damsons
Delicious 16th century Damson Snow recipe from Englishman's Castle. (He also has tart columns on the British Government's indebtedness and the accounting mess at MOD and the Treasury.)
Romans introduced damsons to Britain. Brits carried damson trees to America before the Revolution and then on to British Columbia. The Romans had wanted the purple dye made from the skins. Brits wanted Damson jam, Damson wine and (my favourite) a Damson tart.
