Ocean of life
Bottle-nosed dolphins were known even by the Ancient Greeks, but much about the sea was not known until, in 1872, the Royal Society's HMS Challenger explored all the world's oceans, charted all the great basins and currents, and discovered 4,717 new marine species. The 4-year expedition reported on ocean currents and temperatures, underwater geography, deep-sea deposits, coral formations, and life forms in 50 published volumes.
Today we have a new book published by marine biologist Callum Roberts.
